※ブライドルレザーとは、革に何度もロウを塗り込み繊維を引き締めたものです。表面に白く浮き出てくる「ブルーム」はブライドルレザーの特徴の一つです。
９０年代後半に静かにその幕を閉じた名門「シャトルワース社」。同社の廃業から１０年以上の歳月が経過し廃棄処分寸前となっていた設備一式を購入。工具、型紙、機械関係をオーバーホールしスタートしたのがイングリッシュブライドルラッゲージブランド「ラザフォード」です。ピュアイングリッシュブライドルレザー、ソリッドブラスの金具、 アイリッシュリネンの糸など、可能な限り英国産の材料にこだわり、熟練の手縫作業を頑なに再現しています。

*Bridle leather is created by repeatedly applying wax to the leather to tighten the fibres. The white residue that appears on the surface, known as “bloom,” is a natural and distinctive characteristic of this material.
Rutherford is a distinguished English bridle luggage brand founded on the legacy of the prestigious Shuttleworth company, which quietly ceased operations in the late 1990s. Over a decade later, the entire workshop setup—tools, patterns, and machinery—was rescued just before disposal, meticulously restored, and brought back to life.
Rutherford remains devoted to traditional hand-stitching methods and is committed to using British-made materials wherever possible, including pure English bridle leather, solid brass hardware, and Irish linen thread.
