※ブライドルレザーとは、革に何度もロウを塗り込み繊維を引き締めたものです。表面に白く浮き出てくる「ブルーム」はブライドルレザーの特徴の一つです。


９０年代後半に静かにその幕を閉じた名門「シャトルワース社」。同社の廃業から１０年以上の歳月が経過し廃棄処分寸前となっていた設備一式を購入。工具、型紙、機械関係をオーバーホールしスタートしたのがイングリッシュブライドルラッゲージブランド「ラザフォード」です。ピュアイングリッシュブライドルレザー、ソリッドブラスの金具、 アイリッシュリネンの糸など、可能な限り英国産の材料にこだわり、熟練の手縫作業を頑なに再現しています。

Rutherford is a luggage brand born from the legacy of the distinguished Shuttleworth company, which quietly closed its doors in the late 1990s. Over a decade later, the full set of equipment—once destined for disposal—was rescued, restored, and put back into service. With overhauled tools, templates, and machinery, Rutherford proudly carries forward the tradition of English bridle leather craftsmanship.

Using only the finest materials wherever possible—pure English bridle leather, solid brass fittings, and Irish linen thread—Rutherford is committed to faithfully preserving the art of traditional hand-stitching.

Note: Bridle leather is made by repeatedly applying wax to the leather, tightening the fibres. The white bloom that appears on the surface is a natural characteristic of this type of leather.
